Strategic Plan (First Draft, Strategic Plan Outline)

*The National Alliance for Accessible Golf Board of Directors has been working over the past several months to develop a strategic plan which will guide the activities of the Alliance over the next several years. Details of each strategic priority, including actions, benchmarks and , deliverables are being developed and will be posted on this web site as they become final.

VISION

Through the game of golf individuals with disability become actively engaged in the social fabric of a community, and derive health benefits that improve quality of life.

MISSION

To ensure the opportunity for all persons with disability to fully engage in the game of golf.

VALUES

  • All individuals are entitled to play the game of golf regardless of their ability, socio-economic condition or experience.
  • Golf contributes directly to social inclusion in the fabric of a community.
  • The game of golf must be accessible and affordable for all.
  • Direct health benefits are derived from playing golf.
  • Information about the benefits of golf for persons with disability and the golf industry must be constantly shared with the media, public, health, rehabilitation, recreation and golf professionals

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

  • 1.0 - Increase opportunities for persons with disabilities to learn and play golf.
  • 2.0 - Increase awareness of the needs of golfers with disabilities among golf course owners and operators, teaching professionals, and related personnel.
  • 3.0 - Advance scientific understanding of the benefits of golf for persons with disability.
  • 4.0 - Provide technical assistance to golf course managers and teaching professionals about assistive and mobility devices to assist in golf instruction and enjoyment in playing golf.
  • 5.0 - Create and sustain a comprehensive fiscal plan to advance the activities of the ALLIANCE and sustain operations through 2005.

Strategic Priority 1.0 - Increase opportunities for persons with disabilities to learn and play golf.

Goal 1.1: Develop, implement and evaluate a community based model program in several test sites to increase functional and golf skills, self-efficacy, specialization in golf, improve perceived quality of life and facilitate inclusion of people with disabilities into the fabric of the community.

Goal 1.2: Develop, evaluate and disseminate a toolkit for golfers with disabilities that includes critical information about the game, accessible places to play, media resources, technical information, and benefits of playing the game.

Goal 1.3: Develop a searchable database of resources (e.g.) instructional programs, equipment, courses, etc.) for people with disabilities to learn how to acquire information necessary to access and play the game of golf.

Strategic Priority 2.0 - Increase awareness of the needs of golfers with disabilities among golf course owners and operators, teaching professionals, and related service personnel.

Goal 2.1: Evaluate the ALLIANCE Tool kit for golf course operators and disseminate it via the Internet, in CD- ROM and written form to all golf courses in the USA.

Goal 2.2: Provide technical information and assistance to golf personnel across the USA in providing quality customer service to people with disabilities through Project GAIN, national, regional and state conferences, PGM program, website and other means.

Goal 2.3: Develop and validate the utility of a searchable database of resources (e.g.) accessibility information, rehabilitation/recreation facilities and programs, accessible courses, resources on adaptive equipment, and instructors of golfers with disabilities) to promote play for golfers with disability.

Strategic Priority 3.0- Advance scientific understanding of the benefits of golf for persons with disability.

Goal 3.1: Develop grant and contract proposals for funding that produce new applied knowledge on the physiological, psychological, and sociological benefits to people with disabilities of playing golf.

Goal 3.2: Partner with equipment manufacturers, golf industry organizations, rehabilitation and recreation agencies to determine the efficacy of assistive and mobility devices for golfers with disabilities, and their contributions to the quality of play.

Goal 3.3: Determine the efficacy of pedagogical approaches to increasing golf skills, functional skills, and inclusion outcomes to persons with disability through the game of golf.

Goal 3.4: In cooperation with the PGA of America, LPGA, PGM sites, and universities, develop and validate pedagogical models and protocols for teaching golf to individuals with varying levels of disability, experience, and resources.

Strategic Priority 4.0- Provide technical assistance to golf course managers and teaching professionals to increase golfers with disabilities participation in, and enjoyment of the game of golf.

Goal 4.1: Increase golf course managers and teaching professionals knowledge of persons with disabilities needs as they relate to issues of accessibility, accommodations, instructional approach, medical and health needs, and managing risk issues.

Goal 4.2: Assist the USGA Resource Center as necessary in gathering and disseminating information to advance golf course managers and teaching professionals knowledge.

Strategic Priority 5.0- Create and sustain a comprehensive fiscal plan to advance the activities of the ALLIANCE through 2005.

Goal 5.1: Identify the estimated annual income and expenses to operate the ALLIANCE and successfully meet the goals of the strategic plan through FY 2005.

Goal 5.2: Examine the need and feasibility of securing 501 c 3 (not for profit) status from the IRS to serve as the corporate structure for the ALLIANCE.

Goal 5.3: Prepare and secure approval for a development plan that addresses the short and long term goals of the ALLIANCE.

Goal 5.4: Prepare a business plan for operations of the ALLIANCE from July, 2002-June 30, and 2003.
